Range Expansion Donations
Buffalo Creek Gun Club, Inc. (BCGC) is home to the Camp Fickes Shooting Range in the Pike National Forest near Bailey, Colorado. We are open to the public shooting community. Our club is soliciting donations for a cause we care about and consider extremely important -- educating the public on safe, fundamental handling of firearms and providing a safe, clean, outdoor environment to practice the use of firearms. We are classified as a Non-Profit corporation, 501(c)(3), by the Internal Revenue Service. Therefore, your entire donation is tax deductible.
We shoot the following types of matches at our range: High-Power Across the Course Competition; 600 yd Midrange Prone w/F-Class; .22 Bench Rest Rifle Competition; Steel Challenge Pistol/.22 Rifle Competition; Precision Rifle League (PRL); and International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) Competition.
The US Forest Service (USFS) has recently approved our request to improve a 263-acre shooting complex. We need your participation to improve the shooting opportunities for all shooting enthusiasts and greatly enhance the safety aspect of shooting for the public and club members of Buffalo Creek Gun Club, Inc.
We propose to construct the following Shooting Complex at the Camp Fickes Shooting Range:
1) The club’s #1 priority: a thirteen (13) Bay Pistol Range with an earthen berm separating each bay; two Parking Lots; a 30’x40’ portable and movable training facility for training & education by the club and the Colorado Division of Parks & Wildlife; four movable & lockable storage containers to contain the Pistol Bay equipment, target frames, tools, and props; two double vault voilets (if grants or donations for the purchase can be obtained); and Road Access. The first bay on the west side of this area would be specifically set up for 50 and 100 yard .22 Rimfire Bench Rest matches.
Also included in the USFS approved improvement Request:
2) Sporting Clay Shotgun Range (9.5 acres) consisting of a walking path between 10 shooting stands. A single vault toilet (if grants and donations for the purchase can be obtained). All Clays would be environmentally friendly disposable targets.
3) 1000 yard “Steel Gong” BUFFALO Target with small berm west of our 600 yd berm and a walking path to the Gong.
4) small Archery Practice Range (1+ acres) for sight-in and youth activities between the Long and Short Ranges.
5) 3-D Archery Range (9+ acres) located to the East & South of the 600 yd Long Range firing area consisting of a walking path between ten (10) 3-D Animal Targets.
6) 270 Degree Shooting Range (10+ acres) located east of the 12 Bay Pistol Range. Road access located off the camping road to the north of the Sporting Clay Range. A temporary Shooting House would be located on this site along with three (3) berms.
7) 14-acre recreation area located to the north & northwest of the Short Range. A parking area, a double vault toilet (if grants and donations for the purchase can be obtained), picnic tables, horseshoe pit, volleyball court, possibly a “chipping green” and possibly a playground for children to use while either Mom or Dad are shooting, would be included within this Fenced-in area. Public/Private Clubs or organizations could rent the area for their outdoor meeting/outings.
8) One single vault toilet located south of the Long-Range Pit area. One double vault toilet located east of the Stat House. Once again, if grants and donations for the purchase can be obtained.
The proposed thirteen Pistol Bays, along with the other improvements will significantly add to the availability of individual shooting positions for the public and member shooters. Overall, this proposal will benefit not only Buffalo Creek Gun Club, but also metro area public shooters, as well as enthusiasts in the surrounding counties and beyond. The US Forest Service will be better served by reducing the amount of dispersed target shooting in Pike National Forest.
Thank you for your consideration in helping us improve the shooting opportunities for you in a SAFER environment.
