About Buffalo Creek Gun Club

Established in 1918, the original U.S. Army rifle range operated until just before the end of World War II. Named after Lt. Fickes, who tragically died there along with two others in a freak lightning storm, Camp Fickes served as a high-altitude training range during WWI but fell into disuse before the war ended. In 1960, Ed Harvey rediscovered the site and, in 1961, founded the Buffalo Creek Gun Club (BCGC) after securing a $62.50 one-year permit from the U.S. Forest Service.

Today, Camp Fickes and the BCGC range cover 47 acres and include both short and long ranges. The short range features 13 pistol lanes, with berms at 25, 50, and 100 yards. The Jim Starr Long Range offers 15 dedicated lanes and shooting positions at 200, 300, and 600 yards.

BCGC hosts a variety of matches and competitions, including IDPA, Steel Challenge, 22 Benchrest, Civilian Marksmanship Program, NRA High Power, and the Precision Rifle League, which is similar to the Precision Rifle Series (PRS). Additionally, the club provides training for Scouts, churches, schools, and first responders.

As a member-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Colorado, BCGC serves over 1,500 shooters annually—both members and the public. Our mission is to support, encourage, and promote the education of all individuals interested in firearm use.

BCGC’s monthly Board of Directors meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Aspen Park Community Center, located at 26215 Sutton Road, Conifer, Colorado 80433. Please park at the RTD lot across the street.
